The Ancestors Of Shree Vallabhacharyaji

Shri Yagyanarayan Bhatt was learned and pious. He was a Brahmin of Taitariya Shakhadhyayi Triparavaranvit Aangiras Yajurvedantrgat Aapstambh Bharadwaj Gotra. His wife’s name was Shri Narmada.

He was initiated into the Gopal Mantra by a saint named Vishnumuni. Shri Yagyanarayanji was a great devotee of Gopal. Shri Krishna once appeared before him and told him that He would take birth in his family when his descendants had completed one hundred Som Yagya. Shri Yagyanarayan himself performed thirty two Som Yagya. His family was also known as Som Yaji because of the tradition of Som Yagya.

His son Gangadhar Somyaji was as learned as his father was. His book, Mimansa Rahasya, was appreciated by scholars. He performed twenty eight Som Yagya. He had a son by his wife, Shri Kanchi.

Shri Gangadhar Somyaji’s son, Shri Ganapati Somyaji, carried on the family tradition of being learned and performing Som yagya. His book was called Sarva Tantra Nigrah. He performed thirty Som Yagya.

Shri Ganapati and his wife, Shri Ambika’s, son Shri Vallabh Bhatt was a scholar of Shruti and Smruti. He wrote an essay called ‘Bhakti Deep’. He performed five Som Yagya. His wife was Shri Purna. They had two sons, Shri Lakshman Bhatt and Shri Janardhan Bhatt. It is said that Shri Vallabh Bhatt became a sanyasi later in life.

It is believed that Shri Lakshman Bhatt was born in Samvat 1510. His father and Shri Vishnuchit Dikshit taught him the Vedas, Vedant and Puranas. He was married to Shri Yallamagaru and Shri Illamagaru, who were the daughters of Shri Susharma, the Raj Purohit of the then Vidyanagar State. They migrated to a village called Kankarwad as their native place, Kakumbhkar, was ruined by enemy attack. His children were Shri Ramkrishna, Shri Subhadra and Shri Saraswati

Shri Lakshman Bhatt performed the hundredth Som Yagya. When God did not take birth in his family, as had been promised, he went on a pilgrimage. He met Shri Trikhandi Muni who initiated him into Vishnuswami Sampraday with Gopal Mantra. After some time he went back home. When he was travelling with his wife, Shri Illimagaru, his son, Vallabhacharya – the incarnation of Lord Krishna – was born. Shri Lakshman Bhatt died in Vikram Samvat 1546 Chaitra Vadi Navami.

It is said that Lord Krishna came into the world in the form of Shri Vallabhacharyaji in order to save Hinduism from the savage attacks of Muslim invaders. He was born in the sixteenth century at Chmparanya (now in the state of Bihar ). His birth took place in Vikram Samvat 1535 (Vaishakh Krushnapaksh Ekadashi Thursday Ghanishtha Nakshatra Kark Lagna.)

Shri Mahaprabhuji Vallabhacharyaji is the initiator of the path of grace known as Pushti Marg. He propounded the philosophy of  Shuddhavaita.

The story of the birth of Shri Mahaprabhuji is in the realm of the miraculous. His parents, Shri Laxmana Bhatt and Shri Illamagaru, were great devotees of Lord Krishna. On their way to the South of India, they were worried because Shri Illamagaru was pregnant. The journey was arduous and she gave birth to a premature baby. The baby appeared to be stillborn so the mother covered it with leaves and left it in the hollow of a Shami tree.

While resting on the bank of a river, they heard the voice of God in a dream: “I have come to you in the form of a newly born child to protect Hinduism.”  They rushed to the Shami tree, where to their amazement, they found the child playing in the midst of flames. Gazing at the smiling child with a halo around its head, were the ferocious animals of the forest as well as its gentlest creatures. It was obvious to the awe-struck parents that this was indeed God.

Shri Vallabhacharyaji is considered Amshavatar. He is also known as the Mukharvind of Shri Krishna. It is believed that in God’s Vishwa Swaroop His face is made of fire. When Shri Vallabhacharya’s parents found him under the Shami tree, he was surrounded by fire.
